Agent vs Agentic
Agent vs Agentic
An AI agent is the discrete software entity. Agentic AI is the paradigm, not the entity.

The two terms are used interchangeably, but they mean quite different things and the distinction matters. An AI agent is the discrete software entity: a single piece of software that is LLM-driven, task-oriented and tool-integrated. Agentic AI is the behavior expressed when multiple AI agents collaborate in order to perform dynamic task decomposition, achieve persisting knowledge across sessions and gain autonomy. It is the paradigm, not the entity.
